Mind, Body & Experience
Alongside my psychotherapeutic training, I bring a background in teaching and movement. I’m a qualified freestyle and freeride ski coach, yoga teacher (200 hours Ashtanga and 50 hours Yin), bike guide, climbing instructor for beginners, and certified personal trainer. I also have a semi-professional history in athletics and freeride skiing.
These experiences give me a practical understanding of how trauma and stress can show up in the body. They’ve shown me that recovery isn’t only about the mind — it’s about how we move, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves in daily life.
Therapy That Meets You Where You Are
Support for children and adults living with ADHD, or those working through addiction recovery.
Joe Horne
Psychotherapeutic CounsellorTherapy with me is grounded, honest, and collaborative. I don’t sit behind a clipboard or offer one-size-fits-all advice. Instead, I offer a calm, non-judgemental space where you can explore what’s really going on — at your own pace.
I draw on a range of approaches, including:
Person-Centred Therapy — with attention to cycles, external unifying centres, and exploring non-being.
Family Systems Work — integrating family systems and cycles, or Family Internal Systems (FIS) where relevant.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Trauma-Informed Techniques
Motivational Interviewing
My goal isn’t to “fix” you — it’s to support you in understanding yourself and creating meaningful change from the inside out.
Psychotherapeutic Counselling
I primarily support adults navigating:
ADHD (diagnosed or undiagnosed)
Addiction recovery (including alcohol, cannabis, and compulsive behaviours)
Emotional overwhelm, anxiety, shame, and burnout
Low self-worth, identity questions, or feeling stuck
Clients looking for grounded, focused support with life’s emotional complexity
You don’t need a diagnosis to begin therapy — just the willingness to explore.
Whether you’re a child or adult with ADHD—diagnosed or not—I offer guidance to find clarity, restore calm, and build the focus and confidence to thrive.
I offer a safe space to explore alcohol, cannabis, or compulsive behaviours and guide you towards the right addiction recovery support.
Why I Do This Work
Currently in training as a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I chose this path because I believe change is possible when people feel truly heard. Many go through life feeling like they’re failing, when in reality they’re doing their best to cope. Psychotherapeutic counselling isn’t about blame or labels — it’s about untangling deeper patterns and finding a path that works for you.
What to Expect
In our first session, which lasts 10 to 20 minutes, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it. You don’t need to prepare anything or explain everything straight away — just come as you are.
All following sessions are 50 minutes and held either online or in person at my counselling room in Lisbon.
A Bit About Me
I bring not just my training, but my humanity to the work. Clients often describe me as calm, thoughtful, and quietly encouraging. Outside of therapy, I value time in nature, creativity, and slowing down — the same things I often help others reconnect with.
You’re not alone in this.
If you’re ready to explore what’s going on — or just feel curious — you’re welcome to book a session or reach out.
